WHO’S NEWS: Yager appointed as executive director at NYU Furman, Gliatta promoted | HAP

The NYU Furman Center announced today the appointment of Jessica Yager as its new Executive Director.

She succeeds Mark Willis, who agreed to step into the role two years ago in an interim capacity following the departure of Director Vicki Been to the de Blasio administration.
Willis will return to research work full time as the NYU Furman Center’s Senior Policy Fellow.

Yager has led the NYU Furman Center’s policy work since 2012, first serving as Policy Director and more recently as Deputy Director.
She spearheaded the NYU Furman Center’s work on building resilience in multifamily housing following Superstorm Sandy. She also led the creation of several of the NYU Furman Center’s key policy contributions.
Prior to joining the NYU Furman Center, Yager was the founding Director of the Foreclosure Prevention Project at Queens Legal Services.
She has also worked as a senior staff attorney at the Office of the Appellate Defender; a clinical teaching fellow at the Center for Social Justice at Seton Hall University School of Law; and as a law clerk to the Honorable Napoleon A. Jones, Jr., United States District Court for the Southern District of California.
Yager received a J.D. from NYU School of Law, where she was a Root-Tilden-Kern Public Interest Scholar, and a B.A. from Wesleyan University.

Thor Equities announced the promotion of Melissa Gliatta to Chief Operating Officer (COO), Thor Equities North America.
Gliatta was previously Executive Vice President of Thor Equities. In her new role as COO, she will work closely with Joe Sitt to expand Thor Equities’ business activities throughout North America.
Her responsibilities include overseeing asset management, leasing, human resources, development and construction, as well as marketing and property management.
Sitt founded women’s clothing retailer Ashley Stewart in 1991, and Gliatta joined Ashley Stewart in 1995, playing a prime role in operating and expanding the company to 380 stores in over 100 cities.
In 2000, Sitt decided to divest his interest in Ashley Stewart and focus exclusively on Thor Equities.
Gliatta was named Vice President of Thor in 2003, focusing on operations and management of the company’s growing commercial real estate portfolios. She was promoted to Executive Vice President in 2010.

Cushman & Wakefield announced that Michael Daley has been named Global Chief Marketing Officer, reporting to Global President Tod Lickerman.
Daley will be based in New York City.
Formerly CMO at Mercer, Daley has been advising Cushman & Wakefield during the integration of its merger with DTZ. Since that time he has helped shape the strategy and structure of the global marketing and communications team, and now he will lead the team in a full time capacity.
Daley has over 30 years of experience in both the business-to-business and business-to-consumer segments, managing global marketing and sales organizations or running businesses.
Before having helped launch a start-up, he was the Chief Marketing & Sales Officer at Mercer, a global professional services firm.
Prior to that, he was the Executive Vice President of Marketing & Distribution at Principal Financial Group; Senior Vice President – Defined Contribution business and Head of Marketing for Cigna’s Retirement Services division; and a Head of Global Product Management for Bankers Trust. He also managed businesses for T. Rowe Price Associates and Quaker Oats.
Daley holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics degree from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

Daun Paris, President of Eastern Consolidated, has announced that Senior Directors James Famularo and Matthew Sparkshave been promoted to Principal.
James Famularo, one of the top retail leasing brokers in the industry, has arranged over 600 leases for food and beverage establishments during his career.
A Senior Director in the Retail Leasing Division, Famularo was named Eastern Consolidated’s Retail Broker of the Year in 2015.
His recent deals include arranging a 10,000 s/f lease for the Hunt and Fish Steakhouse in the AKA Hotel,; placing Zuber & Company, a French-based design firm used by Jackie Kennedy in the White House, at 4 West 19th Street.
Famularo has over 15 years of commercial real estate experience representing both owners and tenants and his track record runs the full gamut of restaurants, retail, and building properties.
Matthew Sparks, an investment sales specialist, has successfully negotiated more than $1 billion of real estate transactions during his career.
Sparks is a Senior Director in the Investment Sales Division focusing on the sale and purchase of all property types throughout Manhattan.
Recent deals include the Washington Heights Portfolio, containing nine mixed-use elevator apartment buildings with 413 apartments and 48 retail stores, which had an asking price of $185 million.
Sparks studied accounting and finance at SUNY Old Westbury and is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY).

QIC announced the appointment of Eric Belman to the QIC Global Infrastructure team in its newly-established New York office.
Belman will lead the firm’s infrastructure origination, investment and execution efforts in North America.
QIC is one of Australia’s largest institutional investment managers, offering infrastructure, real estate, private equity, liquid strategies and multi-asset investments.
Prior to joining QIC, Belman had been a Managing Director, Business Development, GE Power and Water since 2007.
Earlier in his executive career, Belman led cross-functional M&A and strategy teams at United Technologies and PepsiCo.
He began his post-MBA career with Bain & Company, advising a wide range of corporate and private equity clients.
Belman gained his MBA from the Wharton School of Business and MSE and BSE, Power Systems and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering.
He is a well-decorated former submarine officer and nuclear engineer with the United States Navy.

Rosenberg & Estis, P.C. announced that Adam R. Sanders has joined the firm as Of Counsel.
Sanders will work closely with the Transactions Group, representing clients in a wide variety of commercial real estate and business transactions.
He was previously the principal member of Sanders Legal Group, PLLC in New York City.
Prior to founding Sanders Legal Group, PLLC, he served as a Real Estate Associate at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP in New York, where he worked with the Real Estate Finance Group.
Sanders received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

CBRE Group’s Westchester/Fairfield County office announced that Kevin J. McCarthy has been promoted to First Vice President.
McCarthy joined CBRE in 2007 as a senior associate and his most recent promotion was from vice president in 2013.
His list of notable assignments over the course of just the last 18 months includes representing the tenants in the following transactions:
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) 41,868 s/f headquarters relocation to 3 International Drive in Rye Brook, New York and the fundraising chapter’s 7,500 s/f lease at 3 Landmark Square in Stamford, Connecticut. In addition Mr. McCarthy represents LLS across North America with over 80 leases.
He represented the landlord in the Taro Pharmaceuticals in PepsiCo’s 38,000-square-foot renewal at 3 Skyline Drive in Hawthorne, New York, and Guardian Life in the 13,000 s/f renewal for All Aboard DC at 400 Columbus Avenue in Valhalla, New York.
McCarthy is a graduate of Villanova University.

Invesco Real Estate announced that Robert E. Deckey has joined the firm’s New York office as Managing Director, Senior Investment Officer.
He will be responsible for leading Invesco Real Estate’s investment efforts in the greater New York Metro area.
Prior to joining Invesco, Deckey was Chief Investment Officer for George Comfort & Sons.
He has extensive experience in acquisitions spans 30 years at leading firms including Citigroup and J.P. Morgan, among others.

HAP Investments announced that Avi Blum has joined the firm as Controller.
Blum joins HAP with over eight years of experience in the real estate industry.
He most recently served as manager in a top 25 nationally ranked accounting firm, where he advised real estate managers, developers, commercial, residential, and multi-family home builders on a variety of accounting, business, and tax issues.
Blum holds a B.S. in Accounting from Touro College and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York.

The Weichert Family of Companies announced that John F. Lanahan has been promoted to deputy general counsel.
Lanahan will serve on the company’s Financial Services Segment Senior Leadership Team as the legal and compliance subject matter expert.
The businesses that Lanahan now supports include: Weichert Financial Services, Weichert Insurance Agency and Weichert’s title entities, Weichert National Title and Democracy Title.
A 12-year veteran of Weichert, Lanahan has played a leadership role across a broad spectrum of legal activities .

Dune Real Estate Partners LP announce that Julie Brenton and Eric Calder have been promoted to Partners of the firm.
Julie Brenton, who has also been named a voting member of the Investment Committee, joined Dune in 2014 as a Managing Director and Head of Investor Relations.
Prior to joining Dune, she was a Managing Director at Ranieri Real Estate Partners (RREP), where she oversaw the firm’s capital raising and investor services functions.
Brenton joined RREP at the firm’s inception in 2010 and led the successful raise of their first investment fund.
She received her B.A. in Economics from Carleton College and her M.B.A. in Finance and Real Estate from Columbia University Business School.
Eric Calder, a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and Managing Director, has been an important member of the investment team since joining the firm in 2010.
He was previously a member of Goldman Sachs’ Real Estate Investment Banking Group, where he focused on underwriting and originating commercial real estate loans.
Calder received an M.B.A. from Columbia University and a B.S. from Cornell University.

TerraCRG announced that Peter Matheos will be leading a new investment sales team, focusing on multifamily, mixed-use and retail assets in South Brooklyn.
Matheos, promoted to Vice President of Investment Sales, recently brought on Associate Adan Elias Kornfeld.
Matheos’ new team will focus on sales and advisory covering South Brooklyn neighborhoods from East Flatbush to Coney Island and southeast of Bay Ridge to Canarsie.
Matheos joined TerraCRG as an Associate in 2008, part of the original TerraCRG team, working alongside founding partners Ofer Cohen and Melissa Warren.
He was later promoted to Associate Vice President and has since played a central role in TerraCRG’s rise.
Throughout his eight years at TerraCRG, Matheos has represented hundreds of properties and sold over half a billion dollars’ worth of assets.
Prior to joining TerraCRG, he worked in banking for over three years.
