Karim Rashid Out-Crazies Himself With New Harlem Building | HAP

Designer Karim Rashid is know mostly for his frighteningly colorful interiors, but he has also been unleashing some eye-popping exteriors onto New York City with the help of developer HAP Investments. HAP has tapped Rashid to design a “diamond signature” building in East Harlem, a checkered-purple-Tetris building on West 187th, and, most recently, this eight-story, 20-unit stack of what looks like plastic storage bins at 329 Pleasant Avenue, also in East Harlem.

NY YIMBY, who spotted the renderings, notes that this area of East Harlem is characterized by its impressive stock of prewar brownstones, all the better to make Rashid’s building really stand out, not that it would have needed any help. There isn’t too much that we know about the apartments yet, other than the fact that they will clearly have large and colorful balconies, but this will certainly be one to keep our eye on.
